Your role at Knauf :
Context
The Commercial Controller is responsible for driving transparency, analysis, and decision support across all sales and market-related activities in the region. This includes pricing, volumes, product and channel mix, customer profitability, rebates/discounts, margin analysis, performance tracking of commercial functions and other tasks.
The role acts as a business partner to Sales and Marketing regional and local heads, ensuring that commercial decisions are aligned with financial targets, margin optimization, and the Group's new see-through margin steering model.
Commercial Controller is expected to take ownership, raise initiatives, and drive change, helping to build and improve processes rather than simply running established routines.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Controlling & Analysis
- Own (build, maintain and develop) a performance control system in the sales and marketing areas.
- Organize data collection, implement KPIs, organize reporting routines to ensure right controls are in place to deliver target result.
- Provide transparency on volumes, revenues, margins, pricing realizations, product/channel mix, product and customer profitability.
- Track and analyze factors impacting sales and profitability: volume and price effects, rebates, discounts, promotions and others.
- Support harmonization of commercial policies and pricing processes across countries.
Planning & Forecasting
- Own the sales planning process across the region: budget, forecasts
- Partner with sales and supply chain management to translate market expectations into financial and supply chain forecasts.
- Ensure commercial assumptions are consistent with Group methodology and value chain principles.
- Set clear targets, monitor progress, and take ownership for delivery of agreed financial outcomes.
Continuous Improvement
- Propose and implement improvements in planning and reporting processes.
- Collaborate with other members of regional finance team on system & process enhancements and master data consistency.
- Lead development of tools and dashboards (with BI Analyst) for sales/margin monitoring.
Business Partnering
- Act as the primary finance partner for Sales and Marketing Directors at regional and local level.
- Provide insights to support pricing decisions, product launches, customer contracts, and go-to-market strategies.
- Challenge commercial leadership constructively to ensure profitable growth
- Raise improvement initiatives proactively to drive better margin realization, cost efficiency, or customer profitability.
Entrepreneurship & Process Building
- Establish new controlling processes where gaps exist, designing tools and frameworks from scratch where needed.
- Take responsibility for moving ideas into execution, not only identifying issues but owning solutions.
- Act as a change agent within finance and sales, embedding new practices and fostering a culture of accountability.
Your assets for this position :
Education & Experience :
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- 7+ years in commercial finance, controlling, or FP&A, ideally in industrial or FMCG sectors in multinational organization.
- Business acumen of business-to-business sales & marketing is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in margin analysis, pricing, or customer profitability.
- Experience in multi-country or regional roles preferred.
- Experience with SAP S3 (S4 Hana), SAP BW, Salesforce, BI tools (Power BI, TM1, or similar) highly desirable.
Skills :
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent communication skills - able to challenge and influence Sales & Marketing leaders without having formal authority.
- Ability to craft and deliver clear, compelling presentations tailored to diverse audiences
- Commercial mindset with the ability to link numbers to business reality.
- Solid understanding of transfer pricing, rebates, and margin mechanics.
- Process-oriented and comfortable with running continuous improvement initiatives across multiple markets.
- Fluent in English; other European languages are a plus.
- Responsible - able to propose
Role Location:
Preferably located inWolfgantzen (Alsace) with travels to local markets / Alternative work location can be Paris with frequent travels to Wolfgantzen and tothe local markets.
