The Proto Team ships AI use cases for customers in short timeframes. Our goal is to be the portfolio of the Applied AI team and share our work internally and externally: open-source tools, blog posts, demos, and more. The core of our strategy is to drive product innovation through continuous feedback and contributions to the product.

About the Role

As Mistral's Applied AI Engineer - Proto Team, you'll design and deploy first-of-its-kind AI solutions that inspire customers and push technical boundaries. You will design, build, and deploy full-stack AI-powered prototypes and solutions working hands-in-hand with global customers.

In this role, you will manage delivery of solutions while interacting with multiple stakeholders (including CEO/CTO, data scientists, and software engineers) and function as a key technical leader during the entire engagement.

What you will do

• Build full-stack AI prototypes for global customers: design, develop, and deploy end-to-end AI-powered solutions, acting as technical lead from concept to production.
• Drive technical innovation and adoption: collaborate with research, product, and engineering teams to build internal tools and contribute to open-source projects.
• Lead customer engagement and scoping: conduct scoping calls with clients to understand their use cases, challenges, and requirements, then translate these into actionable technical solutions.
• Solve complex, real-world AI challenges: deep-dive into diverse customer problems across industries, working on state-of-the-art GenAI applications.

About You

• Fluent in English.

• Strong communication skills - can explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Client-focused, with a passion for innovation and improving existing systems.
• 2+ years as a technical individual contributor (ML engineer, software engineer, full-stack) on AI-based products.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, and agent-based systems, including their lifecycle and deployment.
• Experience with Python, clean maintainable code, and scalable architectures (e.g., FastAPI, Pydantic).
• Basic frontend knowledge (e.g., React, Vue) to build modern interfaces efficiently.

Ideally

• Won hackathons or built award-winning AI prototypes.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), and Terraform.
• Contributed to open-source projects in the LLM space.
• Built end-to-end AI applications (e.g., FastAPI, Next.js).
