The role is for becoming a Doctoral Candidate within the AiChemist Doctoral Network, a Horizon Europe Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions program. Academically affiliated to the Biomedical Engineering department of the Eindhoven University of Technology and co-supervised by Sanofi, the candidate will specialize in explainable artificial intelligence for drug discovery. The thesis focuses on the evaluation of explainable artificial intelligence (xAI) methods in the context of drug discovery. Within the Doctoral Network, the candidate shall combine 30 months as a Tu/E employee with 18 months as a Sanofi employee, positioning them at the cutting edge of computational chemistry and pharmaceutical innovation across Europe.

Main responsibilities:

- Develop a methodology to evaluate explainable artificial intelligence (xAI) methods in the context of drug discovery
- Explore the concept of faithfulness for evaluating the quality of xAI methods applied to molecular objects
- Compare the performance of faithfulness metrics compared to methods using synthetic labels with a known ground truth
- Stress-test the modeling workflow on several public and corporate datasets
- Publish your research in peer-reviewed journals

About you

- Experience: Experience in python programming is required
- Soft and technical skills: Cheminformatics, good understanding of xAI
- Education: Master's degree related to Computational Chemistry, Applied Maths or Computer Science
- Languages: English (mandatory), French (nice to have)
