This temporary position supports the delivery of two key ESG priorities for 2026/27: biodiversity and human rights, in response to increasing regulatory obligations and stakeholder expectations. It will also enable in-house analysis of the biodiversity impacts of subsea cable-laying activities, particularly to address scrutiny from investors, NGOs, and rating agencies.
Under the supervision of the Group ESG Director you will be responsible for :
Workstream 1 : Biodiversity downstream study (subsea cables)
- Conduct a structured literature review to frame and assess the biodiversity impacts (positive and negative) of Nexans' cable laying and trenching activities across the full lifecycle: transport, installation, operations, end of life, with a focus on projects nearby the backlog.
- Clearly differentiate submarine cable activities from deep-sea mining and polymetallic nodule exploration, and clarify the relationships between deep-sea mining, polymetallic extraction, cable laying, and offshore wind / marine infrastructure.
- Benchmark and compare impacts against other subsea industrial activities to demonstrate the relatively low biodiversity impact of submarine cable activities.
- Build a robust, evidence-based set of arguments to anticipate and respond to increasing scrutiny of submarine activities (e.g. following recent US regulatory developments on offshore critical minerals).
- Produce Deck 1 (full board-level study with concise executive summary), Deck 2 (2 to 3 slide external-ready material for scrutiny scenarios), and a fully referenced library of sources.
- Provide recommendations to further reduce impacts across short-term (quick wins), medium-term and long-term horizons.
Workstream 2 : Human Rights maturity & due diligence roadmap
- Conduct a current-state assessment of Nexans' Human Rights framework (Vigilance Plan, HR policy, HRDD process, risk assessment, supplier due diligence, grievance mechanisms, governance, reporting and KPIs).
- Benchmark against industrial peers and map current practice against UNGPs, UN Global Compact and OECD Guidelines; assess the regulatory outlook (CSDDD, French Duty of Vigilance, CSRD).
- Design a target operating model and a phased 1 to 2 year deployment roadmap structured around infrastructure, processes, and mindset & capability building.
- Coordinate and align internal functions (Procurement, Compliance, HR, Operations, Sustainability) around findings and next steps.
Profile :
- Fluent in English
- Master's degree from business, science, law or information systems school/university with a specialisation in Sustainability is a plus
- Management Competencies (plan, organize, run, debrief, and summarize meetings and routines)
- Knowledge about global ESG regulations
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience
- Proactive and ambitious mindset who can work with full autonomy with the right level of escalation if needed
