Job Purpose
AGL Namibia is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead all fleet and equipment maintenance operations in Walvis Bay. The role covers both cross-border trucks and trailers, as well as port, yard, and bulk handling equipment. The focus is on maximising asset availability, reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.Key Responsibilities
1. Fleet & Technical Management
Develop and implement maintenance strategies to minimise downtime and ensure compliance.
Monitor performance, identify trends, and drive preventative maintenance improvements.
Liaise with OEMs and align with regional technical standards.
2. Workshop Management
Oversee workshop operations, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency.
Manage technical teams across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and tyre disciplines.
Set and track KPIs (uptime, turnaround, cost, rework).
3. Port & Equipment Oversight
Manage all port and yard equipment maintenance and compliance.
Ensure preventative maintenance, statutory inspections, and certifications.
Handle complex diagnostics (hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, drives).
4. Tyre & Component Management
Oversee tyre performance and cost (CPK), supplier management, and reporting.
Manage component rebuilds (engines, hydraulics, transmissions) internally or via contractors.
5. Fabrication & Repairs
Supervise bodywork, repairs, and modifications.
Manage outsourced fabrication and quality control.
6. Data & Systems
Ensure accurate CMMS usage (e.g., Maximo).
Analyse data and report on performance, costs, and KPIs.
7. Budget & Inventory
Manage maintenance budgets, inventory, and supplier contracts.
Control costs while maintaining standards.
8. Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to Namibian regulations, port authority rules, and safety standards.
Enforce safety protocols and environmental compliance.
9. Continuous Improvement
Drive innovation, improve maintenance practices, and adopt new technologies.
Le profil recherché
Education: Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering. Trade-qualified candidates with strong experience considered.
Experience: 6-8 years in fleet or industrial equipment maintenance, including 5 years in a leadership role. Experience across heavy transport and plant equipment preferred.
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge of heavy trucks (drivetrain, diagnostics, tyres, suspension, electrical systems).
Proven experience in hydraulic systems, lifting equipment, and industrial plant maintenance.
Exposure to PLCs, VFDs, conveyors, and pneumatic systems advantageous.
Understanding of lubrication systems and component rebuilds beneficial.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiar with Namibian transport laws, port authority requirements, and equipment certification standards.
Leadership: Ability to lead and manage multi-disciplinary technical teams with strong planning and organisational skills.
Systems & IT: Experience with CMMS (e.g., Maximo), Microsoft Office, and OEM diagnostic tools.
Language: Fluent in English; Afrikaans advantageous.
