Research/Technology Scientist

Purpose

Manages and/or oversees Fragrance Technology activities within an assigned scope,
implementing global and regional strategy to deliver competitive advantage by addressing local
business needs through effective fragrance technology deployment and innovation development.

Academic Background & Professional Experience

- University degree in relevant scientific discipline.
- Significant experience of fragrance / FMCG industries, +8 years.
- Experience of working in an international environment, across geographies and cultures.
- Project management experience

- Expert knowledge of overall fragrance and/or FMCG science and technologies
- Basic IP literacy
- Effective managerial, communication and presentation skills.
- Fluent in English

Responsibilities

- EHS / Compliance: Responsible for the laboratory environment in accordance with EHS
guidelines

-Strategy: Identify and propose to senior management key areas of strategic focus within the assigned scope based on the business needs
-Functional Leadership & Cross-functional Interface: Lead the Fragrance Technology team interface with the other functions and the Givaudan customers within the assigned scope. Collaborate and coordinate activities with the other sub-regions or regions as needed.
-Resource & Capability Planning: Execute organizational changes in team as required, in cooperation with senior management. Perform day-to-day management of technical staff and equipment
-Financial / Expense Management: Plan, execute, track and report expenses related to own work areas as per senior management guidance.
-Technical / Analytical / Sensory Support: Support the Commercial and Creative communities in promoting both internally and externally the use of Fragrance technologies to deliver relevant consumers benefits. Run associated training sessions as needed. Support technology implementation with clients as needed
-Project Management & External Collaboration: Under limited supervision plan, organize and execute complex projects in line with project requirements, and record / deliver results. Interact with suppliers as needed.
-Internal Technology Deployment: Design and deliver training sessions and materials for internal teams to ensure sustained technology awareness and understanding. Work with the Regional Commercial / Development Organizations to develop customized promotional material and demos
-Innovation & IP: Work closely with the Development Organization to develop and implement technical innovation relevant to a targeted region / country. Gather consumer, customer and competitor insights;
Identify regional innovation opportunities and present them to senior management to shape global and regional roadmaps. Work with Patents team to ensure appropriate protection of all Intellectual Property and be alert to all opportunities to develop IP and protect inventions
-Scientific Expertise: Scientific Expert Support, Serve as a scientific and technical expert in own area
-Olfactory Expertise: Smelling abilities (e.g. fragrance intensity, malodour intensity, generic olfactive camps) and active participation in technical olfactory sensory assessments
-Talent Management & Development: May manage / supervise / mentor Interns, Technicians or Associates; Provide technical coaching and performance feedback. Actively participate in the hiring process within the own group. Responsible for execution of the Engage process within the area of responsibility (incl. target setting, reviews, performance evaluations, and talent evaluations). Propose training and development plans for key technical competencies within relevant areas
