Senior Research Scientist

Design and conduct research projects in order to develop improved or new products and solutions, according to company's business objectives and corporate strategy. Develop in-depth subject matter excellence and utilise to implement scientific and technological advancements.

Core Responsibilities

Research

- Translate consumer benefits or customer requirements typically arriving to Givaudan via new business opportunities into a set of technical requirements.

- Independently plan, organise, execute technical projects, and deliver results.

- Lead projects, track and regularly update the projects in Project Management system, write regular reports and initiate stage gate reviews.

- Apply creative and innovative thinking skills to solve problems and progress toward project deliverables.

- Perform exploratory research to lead to new projects and day-to-day management of equipment.

- Effectively contribute to development of research methods and new science/technical capabilities

- Follow the scientific advancement in own field and identify impact on current projects.

- Identify potential outside collaborations and interact with suppliers.

- Work with Patents team to ensure appropriate protection of all Intellectual Property and be alert to all opportunities to develop IP and protect inventions. In some cases, you will have to present and provide updates of your work to Givaudan's clients.

Scientific Leadership

- Serve as a scientific and technical expert in own area.

Participate in building a group of passionate scientists, actively sharing knowledge and learning in specialist field to ensure the optimal performance of the department.

Profile

- PhD

- Expertise in some of the following topics

- Design, synthesis & characterisation of (bio)polymers

- Functionalisation of bio-macromolecules and their subsequent modification

- Microencapsulation - Delivery Systems

- Emulsions 2/2

- Sustainable materials

- Analytical chemistry (examples: viscosity, particle size, zeta potential,chromatographic methods, IR, UV, SEM, TGA, DSC ....)

- Experience in R&D project management 8-10 years

- Strong drive for business support

- Entrepreneurial mindset

- Able to deliver results in fast-paced customer focused environment

- Hands-on approach and willingness to work in the lab

- Be able to connect and build relationships with a large variety of people (e.g. Perfumers, commercial sales people and for instance production management)
