Les missions du poste

Closure date for receipt of applications : 25/09/2025

Who are we?

The Ifremer Environement Resources Provence Azur Corse Laboratory (LER/PAC) is a bi-located laboratory between the sites of La Seyne sur Mer (PACA) and Bastia (Corsica). IT belongs to the Observation and Ecology of Coastal Ecosystem Restoration Unit (COAST) of Ifremer's Oceanography and Ecosystem Dynamics Department (ODE), and is attached to Ifremer Mediterranean Centre. Its activities are divided into three main areas :
- Monitoring and observing the quality of marine waters and coastal ecosystems;

(ii) providing expertise in its field of competence to local authorities, public bodies and professional organizations, and issuing opinions to ministries and decentralized departments;

(iii) research in direct response to marine social and economic issues, on a regional, national and international scale.

The position is located in La Seyne sur Mer, within the ODE Department and the COAST Unit, and reports to the LER/PAC Manager. The research manager will work in collaboration with technicians, engineers and researchers from the LER/PAC and, more broadly, from Ifremer and its scientific partners.

What will your mission BE?

The scientific activity of the LER/PAC is centred on the understanding of the functioning and evolutionary trajectories of coastal ecosystems in the face of multiple pressures, in order to contribute to their conservation and restoration.

In a context of increasing pressure on coastal marine ecosystems, the ecological restoration of habitats is a major challenge for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience. The integration of artificial hard substrates into coastal environments, particularly in urban marine areas or heavily anthropized sectors, raises ecological and functional questions that require an interdisciplinary approach combining benthic ecology, taxonomy, molecular tools, statistics and modeling.

As a researcher, the person recruited will participate in the COAST Unit's research and innovation work on the restoration ecology of coastal marine habitats, in particular hard substrates (natural and artificial) as well as urban marine areas. He/she will contribute to the implementation of integrated approaches to assess the structure and functioning of associated benthic communities, as well as their evolution, including in a restoration context. Emphasis will BE placed on i) studying the ecological functioning of these habitats, ii) their evolutionary trajectory in a context of global change, and iii) assessing the efficiency of ecological restoration solutions (active and passive) in order to preserve socio-economic uses.

What will your activities BE?
- Manage and coordinate research projects related to the functioning, evolutionary trajectories and restoration of hard substrate coastal ecosystems, within the framework of regional, national and European projects, in conjunction with the Institute's other units.
- Contribute to the LER/PAC and COAST Unit's activities in support of public policy on marine environment management and expertise in the field of restoration ecology.
- Disseminate knowledge to the scientific community, coastal managers and the general public.
- Participate in research training by supervising students (Masters, PhD students) and supporting post-docs and technical staff.
- Contribute to the production of solutions to environmental/societal problems in collaboration with stakeholders and private companies.

How are your activities organised?

Employment rate : full-time
- Occasional at-sea missions aboard small boats, coastal, and offshore research vessels
- Prolonged screen work
