About the role
The current CTO, who built and led BAM's Engineering practice for over 3 years, is handing over the reins. BAM is therefore hiring a Head of Engineering to take over the team and the stack, and continue growing BAM's tech internationally.
The role reports directly to the CEO. You'll lead a small team of 2 developers and 1 Product Owner - so this remains a hands-on role day-to-day, not just remote roadmap ownership.
Our tech stack
A quick overview so you can picture yourself in the technical interview:
Backend & platform: Node.js / TypeScript, mainly NestJS, with Prisma and Kysely on the data side, exposed via GraphQL (Apollo) and REST documented with OpenAPI/Swagger.
Frontend: React (18/19) in TypeScript, Vite, with Chakra UI, MUI and Radix UI depending on the project, Redux Toolkit for state, i18next for multi-language support (FR/EN/ES), Sentry for monitoring, Mixpanel for analytics, GrowthBook for feature flagging. Testing with Vitest/Playwright, linting/formatting with Biome.
Mobile: a native iOS app (Swift) dedicated to multi-screen casting in our rooms, with GitHub Actions CI/CD and TestFlight deployment.
Real-time audio: a voice effects engine and a singing analysis/scoring engine - a real technical subject at the heart of the karaoke experience, not just a gimmick.
Infra & Ops: AWS, Terraform/Terragrunt for infrastructure as code, Docker, GitHub Actions CI/CD, multi-country environments (FR/UK/ES) and multi-currency payments (Stripe).
Other: WordPress-based marketing sites, internal tooling (data anonymization scripts, exports).
Your missions
Own the entire Engineering function: technical roadmap, architecture, quality, delivery - across our software platform (BAM Online, internal tools, booking) as well as our real-time audio components (voice effects, singing scoring)
Manage and grow a small team (2 developers, 1 Product Owner), while remaining a hands-on technical contributor yourself
Ensure system reliability under real-world conditions: our peak load happens on Friday and Saturday nights, not on a Tuesday at 11am
Push our voice effects and scoring engines forward - a genuine product differentiator for BAM
Contribute to BAM's tech vision alongside the CEO, notably around our international expansion (Paris, London, Madrid, and beyond)
Work hand in hand with Product, Ops and venue teams to roll out every new feature or piece of equipment smoothly

Your profile
Proven experience as a CTO, Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, or senior Engineering Manager, ideally in a scale-up environment combining a digital product with strong technical demands - comfortable with a very hands-on role given the team size
Solid full-stack technical background: comfortable with a Node.js/TypeScript ecosystem (NestJS, GraphQL/REST) and React
An interest in real-time audio processing: voice effects and singing scoring are a real subject here (latency, audio quality, synchronization), and you're keen to dig into it
Fluent English, essential: the role is based in Paris or London, and you'll work with international teams and markets (UK, Spain)
Fluent French, essential: for day-to-day work with our Paris-based teams and venues
Real leadership at human scale: you know how to bring a small team together and help it grow
A strong sense of product and customer experience
Nice-to-haves:
An interest in music
An interest in networking (WAN / LAN / WiFi)
Where
The role is based in Paris or London (to be defined based on your profile and preferences), with occasional travel between our cities (Paris, London, Madrid, Bordeaux).
