Les missions du poste
We are hiring a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the structural design and analysis of cryogenic pressure vessels and vacuum-insulated assemblies. You will own the mechanical integrity of LH2 tanks from preliminary sizing through qualification testing.This is a decision-making role with direct report to the CTO.
This is a hands-on engineering role. You will run or coordinate FEA models, produce sizing reports, define materials and processes, and interface directly with manufacturing partners. The position is central to our ability to deliver flight-grade hardware on a demanding schedule.
Responsibilities :
Design and Analysis
- Lead structural sizing of metallic pressure vessels for cryogenic service: static, dynamic, thermoelastic, buckling, fatigue, and fracture mechanics analyses.
- Develop and maintain FEA models for the inner and outer tanks, mounting interfaces, vacuum shell, and cryogenic pipework.
- Establish structural sizing tools and methods.
- Produce structural analysis reports compliant with aerospace standards.
Materials and Manufacturing
- Define material allowables at cryogenic temperatures.
- Specify welding processes (TIG, FSW) and assess their impact on structural margins (HAZ degradation, residual stresses).
- Review manufacturing drawings for structural adequacy (tolerances, weld joint design, surface finishes).
Test and Integration
- Support structural integrity test campaigns: define test cases and correlate FEA with test results.
- Coordinate with composite engineering partners on metal-composite joints and load path definition.
- Contribute to design reviews (PDR, CDR) with structural justification packages.
Le profil recherché
Education
- Engineering degree (MSc or equivalent) in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years in structural analysis of pressure vessels, cryogenic equipment, or aerospace structures.
- Proven experience with non-linear FEA.
- Hands-on experience with aluminium alloy design for welded structures (HAZ properties, weld factors, joint design).
- Familiarity with at least one pressure vessel design code.
Technical Skills
- FEA: Abaqus / Hypermesh (preferred), or Ansys/Nastran with willingness to transition.
- CAD: CATIA / Solidworks / Fusion360 or equivalent.
- Materials: Cryogenic material behaviour, fracture mechanics, and fatigue at low temperatures.
- Manufacturing: Machining, forming, welding, and NDT methods relevant to aluminium pressure vessels.
Languages
- Professional English required.
- French is a strong asset.
Desirable
- Experience with composites or composite-metal hybrid structures.
- Background in hydrogen or cryogenic systems.
- Experience with thermoelastic analysis.
- Prior work in aerospace.
