Senior Director - IBU Oncology and Immunology

Responsibilities
- Lilly's global communications team provides strategic support to the business, partnering with key function and therapy area leadership teams to amplify what matters, shape perceptions and protect Lilly's reputation.
- The senior director for International Oncology and Immunology communications is accountable for advocating for affiliate business needs to inform the global communications strategy for Oncology and Immunology and driving strong execution in key international markets.
- As a champion for Lilly's affiliate teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading affiliate work to build on and localize global communications plans to drive Lilly's brand presence for Oncology and Immunology. Success will rely on close partnership with country-based teams to drive consistent, impactful communications across multiple regions.
- The role scope includes all external communications efforts, such as earned media, thought leadership, advocacy and partnership activations and campaigns across Lilly's International Business Unit (IBU). This includes delivering creative integrated campaigns to engage the public, advising collaborators and driving system readiness.
- The successful candidate will be accountable for building capabilities in traditional and new media to deliver best in class PESO campaigns and drive detailed execution. Strategies should be scalable and measurable, include issue preparedness and focus on driving innovation readiness and Lilly's brand presence across IBU.
- The role requires strong collaboration across multiple teams and across all organizational levels. Critical relationships include the broader Global Communications functions, Medical, Marketing and Corporate Affairs teams. As point contact for our IBU affiliates for Oncology and Immunology, this is a communications leadership position, responsible for delivery of campaigns as well as delivering hands on support and issue management at both international and affiliate level in line with strategic business needs.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Develop creative communication campaigns that bring to bear global strategies to improve Lilly's brand presence with key stakeholders and improve innovation readiness for future product launches.
- Maximise earned media opportunities across IBU for data and regulatory landmarks
- Serve as primary communications counsel for Oncology and Immunology in international affiliates and with IBU business partners, and represent IBU communications in Innovation Readiness workstreams
- Key liaison between the Global Communications Oncology and Immunology teams and IBU communicators
- Horizon scanning on future opportunities, reputation and issues management to ensure preparedness
- Drive IBU and affiliate capability development in communications; facilitating standard methodology sharing and continuous learning
- Ensure all activities and campaigns are delivered in compliance with Lilly policies and procedures and external regulations.
- Internal partner and project management
- Lead day-to-day work with our PR agencies, including onboarding and management standard methodologies for affiliates
- Develop and edit key communications for media such as press releases, internal Q&As, videos and fact sheets.
- Conduct and/or facilitate interviews with local, national, and international media outlets.
- Miscellaneous support of communication projects, including writing, issues management and critical thinking.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field, for example, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Literature
- Qualified applicants in the United States must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Additional Skills/Preferences
- Demonstrable senior experience of leading design and delivery of multi-country communications campaigns and media handling experience (eg in prior journalism, public relations, other communications roles, etc.)
- Robust experience of running traditional and social media, including press releases, reactive handling, and issue management; alongside media relations, including interacting with A-list media and serving as a spokesperson.
- Global Mentality: Brings a global perspective to communications, with the cultural fluency and awareness to lead campaigns that resonate across markets and partner effectively with teams worldwide.
- Experience in the development and execution of strategic and creative communications plans, including digital and social media.
- Validated issue leadership skills
- Successful experience working with cross-functional teams, including collaboration and consensus building.
- Experience of working across countries and regions, with ability to adapt to cultural preferences
- Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate with business partners.
- Experience of leading projects to time, outcomes and budget.
- PR agency management experience.
- Ability to flex between critical thinking and detailed delivery based on circumstances and business needs.
- Creative communications skills - written and verbal, as well as interpersonal.
- Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward.
- Experience of working with new media technologies and ability to adapt to evolving technologies.
