Contexte et atouts du poste
You will join the NERV team at the Paris Brain Institute, a leading interdisciplinary research center dedicated to neuroscience and brain-computer interfaces (BCI). Our team develops innovative Python toolboxes and software solutions to advance Brain-Computer Interface research, with a focus on real-time classification and feature benchmarking.
Mission confiée
With the help of senior researchers and engineers, the recruited person will be tasked with:
- Developing robust software tools to benchmark features used for BCI classification.
- Studying the real-time feasibility of our approaches, with a focus on performance, scalability, and integration with experimental setups.
- Reformatting and optimizing existing code developed within the team.
Collaboration
The recruited person will work closely with:
- BCI researchers and clinicians at the Paris Brain Institute, who design and conduct experiments using our tools.
- Software engineers and data scientists within Inria, to ensure best practices in code development and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining Python-based tools for feature benchmarking and real-time analysis.
- Ensuring code quality, documentation, and reproducibility of results.
- Taking initiatives to improve workflows, automate processes, and propose innovative solutions for real-time BCI applications.
Steering/Management:
The person recruited will be in charge of:
- Coordinating with team members to align software development with research objectives.
- Presenting progress and results in team meetings and scientific reports.
Principales activités
- Reformatting and refactoring legacy code for clarity, efficiency, and maintainability.
- Developing new software tools to benchmark BCI features and evaluate their performance.
- Conducting feasibility studies for real-time applications, including latency analysis and resource optimization.
- Collaborating with researchers to integrate tools into experimental pipelines.
- Write documentation
- Write reports
- Write papers
- Test, change up until validation
Compétences
Required:
- Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with scientific computing libraries (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, etc.).
- Knowledge of signal processing and/or machine learning, especially for BCI or neuroscience applications.
- Experience with software development best practices (version control, testing, documentation).
- Ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
Desired:
- Familiarity with real-time systems, embedded programming, or hardware interfaces.
- Experience with BCI platforms (e.g., OpenViBE, Timeflux, or custom setups).
- Knowledge of data visualization tools (Matplotlib, Plotly).
