Manager, Engineering API Gateway
Summary of the Role

Did you know that API (Application Programming Interface) consumption is more than doubling every year at Amadeus?

All business units-including Airlines, Distribution, Hospitality, and Outpayce-are now creating APIs, which are increasingly consumed by our customers. This trend is accelerating, as APIs are central to the Creation Platform and Cloud Native Applications, and are a major capability in this ecosystem.

This is where the API management platform plays a key role : exposing Amadeus APIs to our customers and enabling them to consume these APIs easily and securely.

A major component of API management is the API gateway, which powers runtime traffic. The API gateway provides scalable connectivity to Amadeus customers, supports modern protocols (OAuth2, HTTP2), and integrates with internal Amadeus technologies as needed.

We currently operate dozens of gateway clusters in Microsoft Azure, handling 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) of runtime traffic.

Our team of approximately 15 engineers-including software developers, DEVOPS engineers, and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs)-is based in Nice and Bangalore. Our top priorities include :
- Continuously improving the reliability of the gateway to deliver high-quality service to our customers.
- Ensuring both stability and ease of use for our users.
- Automating operations to efficiently manage a growing number of clusters.
- Maintaining strong security and compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
- Managing costs effectively through Financial Operations (FinOps), while continuing to support Cloud Native Applications and evolving the gateway to meet business needs.

In this role you will have a chance to
- Lead a collaborative team of Amadeus employees and contractors, including software developers and Site Reliability Engineers.
- Set performance objectives, conduct reviews, and recommend promotions for Amadeus staff.
- Support team members in their professional development based on their roles, modeling inclusive and collaborative leadership.
- Collaborate with other managers, experts, and architects to contribute to the department's strategy.
- Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple areas, proactively identifying and addressing complex technical challenges.

About Ideal Candidate
- University degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Experience in team management and leadership.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High organizational skills and perseverance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Maintenance and quality mindset oriented.
