PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

This Job Description defines the role, responsibilities and accountabilities of the PRODUCTION MANAGER.

It also includes key relationships, inside and outside the site, and the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours that are vital to successfully achieve the role and responsibilities.

Reporting to the PROJECT MANAGER, the Production Manager is responsible for managing:

- Proactively take the necessary steps towards achieving the safety targets set in the company policy.
- Drive a positive Safety Culture across site *Behaviour Based Safety\_ BBS
- Achieve production targets as per the Business Plan or Forecast.
- Adherence to mine planning schedules, in quantity, quality and be actively involved in its derivation
- Participate in setting strategic direction to participate in managing the delivery of that work so that profit and turnover targets of Mining Business Plan are met and securing new work when possible.
- Lead, organise and provide direction to Site Teams to ensure exceptional performance is achieved in people performance, HSE&Q outcomes and the business results.
- Actively always contribute to a positive teamwork environment
- Always communicate openly and honestly
- Maintain an efficient relationship within the company, CLIENT and Business partners
- Motivate employees to be top achievers

DIMENSIONS

The PRODUCTION MANAGER is accountable for:

- Managing third party contractors and consultants (related to Tender, Budget, New Technology, etc..)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Functional/Technical Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and not necessarily all inclusive.

PRODUCTION MANAGER's Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leadership & People Management :

- Create an empowered, productive and motivated team culture that delivers outstanding performance in all aspects to achieve a successful business performance.
- Co-ordinate staff to work safely, productively, efficiently, and effectively as an integrated team.
- Lead, demonstrate and educate the employees to embrace a work environment free from discrimination, where everyone is included and treated with respect.
- Provide leadership to employees through proactive management of industrial relations issues.
- Ensure positive behaviours and consistent to enhance TEAM SPIRIT.
- Co-ordinate Union /workforce negotiations
- Oversee the development of staff by ensuring employment and training opportunities reflect company and staff needs.
- Identify and procure competent staff as required by Business Plan or Succession Plan (SC).
- Participate and provide Strategic guidelines to Project Manager and personnel reporting to this position

HSE&Q:

- Responsible for the health and safety of employees and self through education, training and demonstration of the right behaviours.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of the business through proactive management of the employees, procedures and processes.
- Ensure the company's HSE&Q standards are incorporated into the workplace.
- Comply with all applicable health, safety and environmental laws, regulations and statutory obligations always
- Report on problems or areas for improvement

Operational :

- Ensure planning for mining works is in accordance with Business Plan.
- Ensure the setting of realistic programs at planning stages.
- Derivation of Budgets
- Ensure site programs meet budget targets and contract requirements in accordance with Business Plan.
- Ensure early preparation and review of yearly, monthly and weekly plans, (attend the related meetings)
- Review the effectiveness of the weekly and the monthly plan daily with the mining team (in-house and with the client)
- Attend all required production meetings and provide daily targets to the production teams
- Approve monthly and weekly plans
- Provide necessary instructions and guidance to the Superintendents
- Control the daily data and achievements
- Review of weekly/monthly reports
- Be involved in the project budget costs and target
- Interact with Plant department to optimize both service and maintenance of mining equipment
- Load and Haul Management :

- - - - - Ensure comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of Loading and hauling operations with excavators and trucks: this includes (but not limited to), Excavator set-up, floor control, dumping management, productivity optimization, truck allocation, machines utilization, Rehandling and processing plant feed...
- Ensure a comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of haul roads construction and maintenance

- Blasting management :

- - - - - Ensure a comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of blasting activities
- Provide technical guidance to the team

- Drilling Management:

- - - - - Ensure a comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of Drilling activities
- Provide technical guidance to the team when required

- Production Engineering Management

- - - - - Ensure that the data capturing system is efficiently implemented
- Approve the daily reports/plans

- Logistics and Supply Chain

- - - - - Manage Production stock levels in order to ensure that stock items are readily available when requirement and that stock level remains on target
- Provide consumption forecast when required

- Cost Control and Budgeting

- - - - - Provide Finance Department with the required information related to costs and budget
- Propose actions to fix deviations to Budget

- Analyze Life of Mine planning required
- Reports non-conformities and follow up on corrective and preventive actions
- Actively participate to internal or external audits, to process reviews and management meetings
- Champion the preparation of the monthly operations report

Subcontractor Procurement (e.g., Explosives Suppliers, Machine OEM):

- Ensure subcontractor procurement is in accordance with Contracts and the company's guidelines
- Ensure subcontractor performance is monitored and meets required performance standards.

Ethics :

- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, statutory obligations, and the company's policy
- Always act honestly and with integrity
- Respect the values and diversity of others
- Accept responsibility and be accountable for actions
- Avoid situations resulting in a conflict of interest, bribery, or the use of inducements to secure business

Client relations :

- Establish regular formal and informal contact with client so that client needs can be understood and

managed to ensure satisfaction with delivered product under the contractual terms.

- Manage claims situations so client relationship is preserved.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

To be confirmed in conjunction with the right candidate.

These KPI's will mainly concern the review and implementation of the company's Operations and processes and systems and the implementation of the company's overall strategic plan.

People Management & Leadership

- Feedback from Management
- Team building sessions conducted. Actions addressed.
- Position Descriptions developed for each staff member
- Training & Development plans implemented to ensure the needs of the employees are met.

- Turnover - 0%
- Employees educated in workplace safety and performance as well as all understanding of policy/procedures and demonstrate the right behaviors.
- Demonstrate behaviors that enforce the company's policy and improve the environment.

Operational

- Achievement of business plan turnover and profit targets
- Overheads at completion meet budget
- Feedback to Project Manager and company's Management daily, weekly, and quarterly during work execution
- Provision of final monthly report
- Productivity to be achieved as set out in the Business Plan
- Hours of Equipment within Budget
- No excess costs from Business Plan
- Detailed Performance Indicators are and need to be agreed annually, however these include but not limited to:

1. Dept LTI FR 90% of completion

4. Pre-work Risk Assessment (for non-routine tasks) > 90% of completion

5. Attendance to Monthly Safety Meeting: 100%

6. Tire Life 100% to Budget

7. Production L&H > Budget

8. Production Drilling > Budget

9. Productivity of Production Excavators > 90% Budget

10. Productivity of Production Drill Rigs > 90% Budget

11. Hours of Production Equipment within budget

12. Client's Claims in Design Implementation = 0

13. Client's Official Claim on Pit/Dumps/ROM/Roads conditions <2 per year

14. Monthly Report on time: 100% of occurrences

15. Monthly Certificate for Invoice on Time: 100%

Subcontractor Procurement (e.g., Explosives Suppliers, Machine OEM)

- Supplier/subcontract reconciliations are approved without queries on completeness of content
- No industrial or client situations developing from use of subcontractor

Completeness of final job report

Ethics

- Compliance with all laws, regulations, and statutory obligations
- Feedback

Client relations

- Client needs being raised informally rather than formally
- Repeat business
- Settlement where possible at Superintendent level and in any case no recourse to lawyers

CONSTRAINTS, FRAMEWORKS & BOUNDARIES

The PRODUCTION MANAGER must:

- Perform activities according to the company's standards within the constraints of the respective countries laws and regulations.
- Ensure all procedures are adhered to and that activities comply with all relevant government statutory Acts and Regulations.
- Ensure compliance to the HSEQ standards and requirements.
- Follow expenditure approval matrix for all operating and capital expenditure.
- Ensure all activities remain within budget and that exceptions are highlighted and discussed.

CHALLENGES

The clients objectives may not necessarily align with the company's objectives and understanding and motivation of both sets of goals and outcomes need to be clearly understood and motivated.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

- Roster: 8 weeks on, 3 weeks off
- Hours: As required to perform duties to a high level of proficiency.
- Location : DRC
- Work language : Frensh /English

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal :

- Project Manager,
- All Heads of Department
- All Production personnel from Foreman upwards and also Operations on a less frequent basis but required.

External:

- Client Mining Manager,
- Client Mining Department,

Client Geology Manager & Supervision

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Education/ Qualifications, Tickets, Licenses:

- Degree/Diploma in Mining engineering, civil works or earth sciences
- Relevant Mining or Quarry Managers certification.
- Master's in mining engineering, civil works or earth sciences or a MBA in Business will be an added advantage

Skills:

- Essential :

- A minimum of 10 years experience in a similar position in an Open pit environment (preferably gold)
- Strong knowledge of drilling, explosives and blasting techniques
- Computer literate (Excel, Word, PPT, Access, Outlook), Surpac (equivalent), AutoCAD
- Strategic and Assertive leadership
- Communication - written and verbal

- Desirable:

- Good knowledge in Geology, Geotechnics and Topography
- General Technical (maintenance) knowledge in Mining Equipment
- Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular developing countries.
- Significant experience in the financial aspects of mining such as cost control, budgeting and return on investment
- Negotiating

Other requirements of the Position:

- Essential:

- To act as Project Manager
- To actively participate to HR/IR Meetings (Union meeting, employees' delegates meeting...)
- To actively participate to the SHE Representatives meetings

- Desirable :

To actively assist the finance department in the elaboration of the cost control report

- Operation running 24/7
- Working Long hours
- Remote Sites

Frensh speaker preferabily ( or able to use Frensh as work language)

The position may be required to relocate to other sites at short notice

OPPORTUNITIES:

- The role will be expected to fill in for the Project manager at certain times.

There may be a requirement to fill in at other sites or at head office as required.
